LA QUINTA CITY COUNCIL APPROVES AGREEMENT TO BRING BOB HOPE CHRYSLER CLASSIC TO CITY-OWNED SILVERROCK RESORT
La Quinta (January 16, 2007)…The La Quinta City Council approved an agreement that will bring the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament to SilverRock Resort next year.
With PGA approval anticipated this week, the city-owned SilverRock course will be added to the 2008 tournament rotation. The council voted today to approve the contract with Desert Classic Charities. The contract represents a revision of the city's 2004 SilverRock contract.
Key changes in the new agreement include a 10-year term and an annual flat fee of $100,000 to the Classic. In the original contract, there was a 15-year term, the same flat fee, plus $10 for rounds over 20,000 and $1 for rounds over 40,000, and SilverRock was a home course and a final-round course every other year.
“We are pleased a new contract is in place and look forward to having the Classic at SilverRock next year,” said City Manager, Tom Genovese. “Everything is moving in the right direction.” Genovese says that the City of La Quinta is excited to be part of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament.
The new agreement also provides that the Arnold Palmer Classic Course will be the first “back up” final course should the Classic Club not be utilized. The new terms also include a one-time fee of $50,000 to be paid by the Classic for parking improvements at the site.
