City of La Quinta Selects New Promoter For 2020 Signature Art Event

La Quinta, CA: The City of La Quinta selected a new promoter for the 2020 signature art event at Tuesday’s council meeting. The promoter, Paul Anderson, former managing director of the Sausalito Arts Festival from 2013 – 2017, was selected unanimously by city council.

This selection comes as a result of the decision and announcement by the La Quinta Arts Foundation to cancel the #1 ranked art festival in the Nation. The City responded to this news with the commitment to proceed with a signature event during the same March dates. The City then hosted a community workshop in July inviting artists and residents to participate in outlining what they would like to see in a future art event. Additionally, a committee was formed that included staff, a fine art event director, a community services commissioner, a city partner, and a local artist. The committee evaluated the submitted proposals and narrowed the list to two finalists. The finalists were selected based on demonstrated experience producing nationally ranked fine art festivals, reputation with artists, and the ability to execute in a team manner.

“We are very excited about our March 2020 signature art event and the vision for years to come!” Said Mayor Linda Evans.

Paul Anderson will hold the 2020 festival, which has yet to be named on the La Quinta Civic Center Campus where the previous art festival has been held. The dates for the 2020 festival will be March 5-8. The new event has proposed 220 artists showing 14 mediums, with an expected attendance of 20,000. There will be elevated food, music, and other interactive art experiences.

“I would do nothing different from what they (La Quinta Arts Foundation) did. I would enhance it. I want to emulate and enhance.” Said Paul Anderson.

Council voted to enter into a one-year contract with Paul Anderson, with an option for extensions for future years.
