This week the World Health Organization classified COVID-19 as a pandemic. The City of La Quinta is posting regular updates from the CDC and Riverside County Public Health about the actions to protect the community and slow the spread.
Pursuant to City Council Emergency Resolution EM 2020-001 and Chapter 2.20 of the La Quinta Municipal Code, Executive Order #4 was issued by the City Manager and mandates the closure of public and private golf courses in the city, which was effective immediately on its issuance March 22, 2020. The closure was in response to Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-33-20 and subsequent ordinance and guidance, mandating that all persons stay at home or their place of residence except for workers providing designated essential services. The golf course closure also is consistent with the directives from Riverside County and its Public Health Office, where the county’s FAQs provide in pertinent part: “Both public and private golf courses must be closed. However, golf course maintenance and landscaping are considered ‘essential’ public works and can continue so that golf courses will be able to resume operations once the state and local orders are lifted.” For the most recent list of FAQ’s regarding the state and county directives and orders relating to COVID-19, please click here.
